Hi! My name is Jakub. I was born in 1995 in Slaný, a small, royal town near Prague in the Czech Republic.
I’ve been interested in photography since early childhood. I grew up on digital photography, but still managed to learn the magic of analog. My first device which could take photos was an LG mobile. The camera resolution was around 1Mpx, but it was the first time I could take pictures on my own. In 2007 I got a compact camera from Sony, which I still own, but it is kinda useless, compared to my other accessories. I took thousands of photos with it, mostly documentary based. Few years later I realized I needed something more complex, as the compact camera had no manual options and I didn’t know anything about postprocessing.
For Christmas 2012 I got my first DSLR, which I had carefully chosen – Canon 600D (nowadays having more than 70k shutter counts). During winter nights I studied astrophotography and often aimed for the stars in the vast darkness of space.
In the summer 2013, for the first time, I participated in a student workshop in Bohemian Switzerland under the lead of Petr Jan Juračka , our lector. I met plenty of amazing people there, I could take photos in this beautiful park and I finally found out my favorite editing software – Lightroom. Also, I made my really first timelapse video and learned the basics of LRtimelapse.
The whole year after the workshop I was trying to significantly improve my technique and postprocessing skills. Next summer I visited this workshop again and made my first better-looking photos, which have also won prizes in the local contest.
I won a book and a huge calendar with photos of the best locations in the park. The book’s authors are V. Sojka a Z. Patzelt – the official photographers of the National Park Bohemian Switzerland.
Towards the end of summer in 2014 I was heading with my ranger brothers beyond the polar circle to the Finish Lapland. I saw my FIRST aurora! I was in a true Finish sauna and jumped into the lake! I’ll never forget this moment.
At the end of summer 2015 our goal was a 14-day roadtrip through Ireland.
2016 we went beyond the polar circle again – Norwegian Vesterålen & Lofoten. In September 2016 I became the offical photographer of the Czech Championship in bouldering.
In September 2017 I photographed European Youth Championship in bouldering.
